In this exhibition, you’ll encounter three perspectives on glass – the story of the glass industry in Småland, the interplay between glass and light, and glass as a material.
Part 1 – The Story of the Glass Industry in Småland
This is the story of the glass industry in Småland and the Swedish glass model – a collaboration where artists and glassworkers work side by side throughout the production process. Over time, the industry has evolved and technology has advanced, but craftsmanship has remained at its core. Manual techniques have endured and played a vital role in shaping Swedish glassmaking for more than a century.
Part 2 – The Search for Light
Access to light has revolutionized the way we live and shaped how we perceive the world around us. In this part of the exhibition, you’ll experience lighting glass from the museum’s collections and explore how glass and light interact in lamps from different eras.
Part 3 – Glass as a Material
Learn more about the material itself. Discover techniques for decorating and shaping glass, and explore innovations that have transformed our everyday lives. For those who want to dig deeper, archive material and reference literature are available.
